The Coolie Trade is, for the present at least, unmistakably stamped out at Macao.
The so-called "barracoons", which are apparently ordinary dwelling houses for the most part, but strongly barred and bound, are empty.
A considerable number were injured by the typhoon and its concomitant floods, and have not been rebuilt. One enormous edifice...
